Pastor Sylina Kidd is a U.S. Navy veteran. She served in San Diego at N.A.S North Island where she worked on H-46 helicopters as an aviation electronics technician. Sylina met her husband Doug, who is a retired rescue swimmer, while they were stationed together. They have been married for 18 years and have two sons, Konner and Ean. Both will attend Julian schools.
After completing her tour of duty in the military, Sylina served as a police officer for the City of San Diego for ten years where she received a lifesaving citation from the Lt. Governor of California. While working in law enforcement, Sylina completed a master’s degree in psychology at Chapman University. After graduation, she worked at a San Diego psychiatric hospital before beginning her master of divinity coursework at Claremont School of Theology. Pastor Sylina completed that degree in the summer of 2020.
She has worked at several United Methodist churches in the San Diego area. Some of her ministry experience includes children’s ministry, education, adults with disabilities, and pastoral care. She has a love for preaching and connecting scripture with the world today. Before coming to Julian, Sylina was the Associate Pastor of Hope United Methodist Church in Rancho Bernardo.
Pastor Sylina is from a small town in northeast Texas called New Boston. She grew up on a small farm where she often walked to church with her younger sister. She has fond memories of living in the country and small-town life. She is very excited to return to country life and become part of our Julian community. She looks forward to learning all about Julian, meeting the people, and discovering how she can be of service. She enjoys painting, hiking, fishing, gardening, and mountain biking.
